Gut Feelings: Practical Insights for Managing the Microbiome and Mental Health in IBD
Professor Georgina Hold and Dr. Paris Tavakoli from the Microbiome Research Centre (MRC) attended the 18th Annual IBD Symposium, held at the InterContinental Double Bay, Sydney, on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
The event was organised by Ferring Pharmaceuticals and featured presentations by Associate Professor Emily Wright and Associate Professor Réme Mountifield. The session was chaired by Professor Georgina Hold.
The symposium collectively underscored the pivotal role of the gut microbiome in the diagnosis, differentiation, and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as the critical importance of integrating mental health care into IBD management strategies. A/P Emily Wright presented current insights into the role of the gut microbiome in IBD, while A/P Réme Mountifield highlighted emerging approaches that incorporate mental health support and patient support groups into comprehensive care plans.
As chair of the session, Professor Georgina Hold contributed her extensive expertise in gut health and the microbiome’s role in both health and disease.
