The Australian Gastro Week (AGW), held in conjunction with the World Congress of Gastroenterology in Melbourne (18–22 September 2025), featured strong representation from the Microbiome Research Centre, with active participation from both the IBD and Liver research groups. A/Professor Amany Zekry served as co‑chair of the Scientific Program Committee and was a member of the Steering Committee. Professors Georgina Hold and professor Emad El-Omar co-chaired key sessions, including the Research and Liver Microbiome sessions, respectively. A/Professor Zekry delivered a distinguished presentation on emerging insights into the microbiome and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), alongside her PhD student, Jayashi, reflecting the Centre’s leadership in the field.
Prof Hold also presented on the nationally scaled Australian IBD Microbiome (AIM) study, initiated in 2019, and chaired the panel discussion for the session titled The Microbiome in IBD.
