A proud moment for the Microbiome Research Centre!
We are thrilled to celebrate our Centre Director, Professor Emad El-Omar, on receiving the prestigious BSG Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Society of Gastroenterology. Presented by BSG President Professor Colin Rees, this award is a testament to Emad’s extraordinary contributions to science, medicine, and leadership over decades.
Professor El-Omar has been a visionary in the field, not only as a world-leading gastroenterologist and microbiome researcher, but as an inspiring mentor, colleague, and friend to so many. His leadership has shaped the direction of GUT, one of the world’s top journals in gastroenterology, where he has served as Editor-in-Chief for the past 16 years.
As he steps down from this role in December, we at MRC—and indeed the entire GUT community—will feel his absence deeply. But we are filled with gratitude and pride for all he has accomplished and shared with us.
Congratulations, Emad. A true giant in our field and a deeply respected leader. We are lucky to call you ours.
